panchakarma treatment

There are various methods mentioned in Ayurveda to Detoxify our Body as well as Mind. The most important among these being following Panchakarma.
Panchakarma means "Five Detoxifying Procedures", namely

. Vamana

Vamana Karma is one of the five Pradhana Karmas of Panchakarma which is successfully used in treating Kaphaj disorders. Panchakarma is also indicated in healthy states. Vamana, a Pradhana karma of Panchakarma, is an important Samshodhana procedure (bio-cleansing method) recommended for cleansing of bahudoshas. Vaman Karma. It should not compared with the vomiting. Vomiting is the forceful expulsion of contant of stomach. Vamana is intended for the removal of Kapha Dosha. In Ayurveda Vamana has been described as the treatment which helps to throw out the doshas or the toxins out of the body from upper part in the form of induced vomitings.

. Virechana

Virachana therapy is defined as the medicated purgation therapy, which cleanses the Pitta and purifies blood, by clearing the toxins from the body. The treatment concentrates on the toxins that are accumulated in the liver and gall bladder. Removal of toxins through anal route with the help of medicated purgation is called as virechana. This process is as important as emesis. The only difference is that it is recommended in vitiated pitta.

. Basti

It is yet another important procedure carried out in Panchakarma. Basti, is the most effective treatment of vata disorders, although many enemas over a prescribed period of time are usually required. It relieves constipation, distention, chronic fever, cold, sexual disorders, kidney stones, heart pain, backache, sciatica and other pains in the joints. Many other vata disorders such as arthritis, rheumatism, gout, muscle spasms and headaches may also be treated with basti.

. Nasya

One of the Panchakarmas mentioned in Ayurveda. Since nose is the gateway of the head, the therapy is highly effective in curing a number of diseases pertaining to the head, if it is performed systematically. The therapy cleanses and opens the channels of the head . The therapy is beneficial if done on a regular basis, because it keeps the eyes, nose and ear healthy.

Nasal administration of medicines easily takes the medicines to the brain and other vital parts. Nasal administration is mainly to remove excess dosha accumulated in the nose, throat and head area

. Rakta-mokshan.

Raktamokshana successfully treats blood-related diseases, including many types of skin disorders: chronic itching, eczema, urticaria, rashes and leukoderma. It is also indicated for enlarged liver or spleen, gout and some types of headaches and hypertension. Its mostly prescribed during the end of summer and during autumn, when pitta's tend to become aggravated due to agni bhuta's dominance.


Toxins like free radicals or similar entities which affect our normal body metabolism resulting in disease condition are eliminated from the body with the help of Panchakarma.
